Rediscovering Howard County’s African-American History Using Historical Archeology Methods
Howard County, Maryland map
Every community has a past. Each has new residents, and those with roots that are already there. Both are valuable.
Through an examination of county historical events through its governmental and other primary source documents, the understanding of county history can be enlarged for our students, residents and visitors. While our primary focus is the neglected African-American story, we utilize all applicable races to tell them.
Howard County’s history is unique for many reasons. It was also the ancestral home of the last living signer of the Declaration of Independence.
